PRENATAL BONDING (BA) CURRICULUM

The PRENATAL BONDING CURRICULUM educates participants in a completely new method of facilitating pregnant women through the second part of their pregnancy until giving birth. Teaching is based on principles of Pre- and Perinatal Psychology and Medicine and general knowledge of Psychoanalysis, Group Analysis, and Systemic Family Therapy. Significant amounts of information and personal growth through ENRICHED BIOGRAPHICAL WORK*, in addition to the method of PRENATAL BONDING(BA) will be acquired.

The content of the education includes definition, history, research, theory, practice, limitations, outcomes of PRENATAL BONDING (BA), and demonstration of facilitation in detailed case studies. Participants will experience group regression to personal prenatal experience and present their early biography (*EBW) to deepen their understanding of the facilitation process as a future facilitator. The group process also includes and invites the significant personal and professional knowledge, and wisdom of every participant concerning all aspects of the earliest childhood experiences. Every participant will facilitate at least two practical administrations of the method, which will be guided personally and supervised by Gerhard Schroth or Anne Goertz-Schroth (Co-leader). In addition, the training group helps to contain these first experiences through peer review of each facilitation.

The course content presented on the first two of four sections will be centred on self-awareness training (*EBW) and theory of biographical assessment techniques of the medical and biographical history of the pregnant women and significant others, facilitation techniques and detailed conditions of working with PRENATAL BONDING (BA), including facilitation examples by case studies, basics of psychotherapy and self-care. This allows participants to begin their own facilitations after the first, latest after the second training block. The following 8 training days by ZOOM webinars will cover deeper specialized facilitation techniques as mentioned above, and will focus as well on peer-group supervision of the trainees' own facilitations. The group process conducted during supervision/peer review allows participants to learn from each other in the sense of Michael Balint's work dealing with the personal aspects of interactional experiences with the pregnant women. Thus, we will have a continuum from theory to practical application within the 4 training sections over a period of about 2 years. For all theoretical topics presented, handouts will be provided summarizing the content.

A personal awareness and reflection process is inevitable during an education and experience, such as this. PRENATAL BONDING (BA) offers a significant healing capacity to the participants.

The training curriculum requires that all workshops must be completed (as described above), and at least two PRENATAL BONDING (BA) facilitations must be conducted with personal guidance/supervision by Dr. Schroth or Anne Goertz-Schroth in 3 personal supervisions of up to 45 minutes by Skype for each facilitated case, which is included. Each student will also be expected to document and present 2 cases to the group, describing the biographical background of the pregnant women, the facilitation process and the outcomes for mother and baby. Satisfaction of these conditions results in certification, which is administered by Gerhard Schroth, MD. Graduates are encouraged to complete 10 facilitations and process these in peer groups following the same format used in the formal training (At this time, there are two active Prenatal Bonding (BA) peer groups are available in Seattle/WA and Champaign/IL (capabilities to participate by video or phone are available).

The training involves 3 blocks of 4 days each (32 education units of 45 minutes) in Germany as well as 8 training days over a period of about 1 year by Zoom webinars (3x90 minutes) in a small group of 9 to 12 students.

Dates: 2021 Jan 15 to 18 and April 23 to 26 ->Each 4 day block will be conducted in Germany (south of Frankfurt) || One year of 8 single training days will be taught in ZOOMwebinars on Sundays in intervals of 6 weeks (excluding vacation months). No travel. Final block: 2022 Oct 7 to 10 in Germany

The unique PRENATAL BONDING (BA) CURRICULUM, in particular the self-awareness training and personal reflective work through the ENRICHED BIOGRAPHICAL WORK requires your participation in all scheduled workshops as a fundamental condition. The quality of the training in its entirety is dependent on all members being responsible, perceiving the training group itself as a conscious living organism or orchestra, where the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts. The training mission cannot be accomplished if one of its' members is missing (severe illness is the exception). This special format of a "safe container" is an analogy to a safe womb, the deep experience of early bonding to be experienced by the participants themselves, creating a significant healing environment for all members and an ideal preparation to the future facilitations of the pregnant woman and the Unborn inside.
